Birmingham City University

Birmingham City University (BCU) is a large and diverse public university located in the heart of Birmingham. Its educational history can be traced back to 1843, when the Birmingham Government School of Design was established. Five colleges later came together to form Birmingham Polytechnic in 1971, which became a university in 1992 and was renamed Birmingham City University in 2007. BCU has more than 31,000 students from over 100 countries and focuses strongly on practice-based learning, professional education and preparing students for future careers. The university has invested more than £500 million in its campus and facilities, including specialist spaces for computing, engineering, healthcare, creative arts and performance.
